Sensei Nish Soni
Leicester Jiu Jitsu Instructor
I have been the club instructor at Leicester Jiu Jitsu since 2008 having started training in Jiu Jitsu from 2004.
As well as being a qualified sports coach through the British Jiu Jitsu Association and Sport England, I also have an enhanced CRB certificate, Valid First Aid Certificate, Professional Indemnity Insurance (Sport England) and full insurance within SMR to train in Jiu Jitsu.
I was introduced to Jiu Jitsu by a friend and after a couple of lessons became hooked. I loved the practical nature of Jiu Jitsu, the fact that the techniques are so effective for self-defence, and the continuous focus on improving what you know.
As an instructor my focus is on providing the highest quality training for all students, developing people’s confidence and fitness through teaching effective self-defence and providing a fun and safe environment to train. As well as teaching adults, I lead the Kids classes which brings great satisfaction when we see increased confidence and improvement over time, great feedback from parents, as well as kids having fun and nurturing a passion for exercise and self-improvement.
My aim is to develop students’ skills so that they are confident in using Jiu Jitsu and able to protect themselves in a variety of situations, so if you want to learn, we are ready to teach you.
I started training in martial arts at university and have continued over the years since graduation balancing the pastime of Jiu Jitsu against a busy career.
After years of training, in 2022 I was awarded my black belt in Seishin Mizu Ryu JiuJitsu.
In addition to my years of training in Jiu Jitsu I have qualifications in adult learning theory, first aid and advanced adult life support.
I have seen the various benefits of martial arts over the years. The confidence I have gained in Jiu Jitsu has extended to the work environment and life beyond the dojo.
It remains a challenging hobby for the mind, new techniques to master and apply. It also maintains my physical fitness and flexibility. It’s a hobby that takes concentration and physical exertion that helps clear my head from the stresses of the modern world.
Finally, I feel lucky to have met lifelong friends over the years as I have trained in Jiu Jitsu.
